What Families Don’t Expect When Caregiving Begins

Hi, I’m Lisa.

I’ve been working in healthcare for over 10 years, and for the past several years, I’ve focused on caring for people in their homes.

I’ve had the privilege of supporting a lot of families through different stages of caregiving—and one thing I’ve learned is that no one ever really feels fully prepared for it.

There’s usually a moment when things start to change.

Maybe it’s a small safety concern. Maybe it’s noticing a parent struggling with things that used to be easy. Maybe it’s just a feeling that something isn’t quite right.

And from there, families are suddenly trying to figure out a lot, very quickly.

What I see most often isn’t a lack of care—it’s the opposite.

It’s people who care deeply, trying to make the right decisions, while feeling overwhelmed, unsure, and sometimes even guilty for not knowing what to do next.

That’s the part of caregiving I care most about—helping make sense of the day-to-day, and focusing on the small things that truly make a difference.

I’ll be sharing what I’ve learned along the way—what works, what doesn’t, and what I wish more families knew earlier.

If you’re navigating this yourself, I’m glad you’re here.
